During 2016 I started sharing my recipes, cooking skills and entertaining ideas by presenting cooking demonstrations followed by a dinner or lunch. These are semi-formal, intimate affairs that last approximately 4 hours, of which 2 are be in the form of a demonstration in my open plan kitchen, followed by a meal either at the dining room or patio table.
The advantage of attending a demo is that you are able to observe all the correct techniques and methods, plus benefit from several hints and tips to vary or perfect your dish. During ‘hands on’ classes you normally prepare only one dish and if a variety is offered, you only taste the other dishes prepared, thus missing out on all the valuable information that is shared regards those recipes. And after all, you can read, stir, chop and slice…… rather sit back and take in the information. I encourage questions and discussion, so bring a pen to jot down extra notes. A full set of printed recipes is provided.
We welcome you with tea, coffee and or an interesting beverage reflecting the theme of the day. On a special occasion a sparkling wine may not go amiss!
Our demo-dinner/lunches include the appropriate wines.
As Rustic Rose develops I will be scaling the demo/meal programme down, but I also welcome and have hosted intimate Corporate Team building events or special occasions such as a girl’s Sweet Sixteen party. Please contact me to discuss your requirements.

What’s Cooking This Summer?
I am sure you enjoyed many deliciously happy moments around the table over the Festive Season. It is so exciting that more people are cooking beautiful innovative food in their homes!
Previously at my cookery school, one of the favourite courses was a series ‘style without stress’! With most of you leading busy lives I will present a few demo/dinners in that theme this year, but with more emphasis on seasonal, healthy eating, ‘new’ ingredients and where possible accommodating options for banters, allergies or intolerance e.g. to gluten or lactose.
I hope to inspire those who want to try some more challenging ‘cheffy’ presentations or just want to ‘up their game’ in the kitchen.
Suggestions from you have prompted a special ‘tweens’ session on preparing a basic ‘special meal’ and to include basic table etiquette. This could also be an alternate birthday treat for a small group on a Saturday.
Includes enjoying the meal with the group. (Mom’s please inform me of any allergies!)
Until April I will concentrate on summer foods, then in May we will hopefully be away and return to share some winter warmers as of mid-June.
Please feel free to discuss a special occasion function e.g. birthday; a ‘book club’ outing or a Corporate get together. Last year I hosted very successful Corporate functions.
I can comfortably accommodate 10-12 persons, if the weather is good, we can stretch the numbers to larger groups.
Let me know if there is something that you particularly want to learn in the kitchen.
- A reminder that there are no ‘hands on’ cooking classes, unless this is specifically mentioned. The format is a demonstration, where discussion and questions are welcomed, and then this is followed by a meal consisting of the demonstrated menu. Occasionally there may be no meal, but snacks served during the demo, (e.g. at the Christmas gift demo) but this will be advertised as such.
- Wine or drinks appropriate to the menu are served with the meal. Guests are welcome to bring their own wine e.g. to sip during the demo or bubbly for a special celebration.
- Last year I found that week-day evenings were most popular, as couples enjoyed attending. Special Groups can be accommodated on other evenings, during the day or on Saturdays. Please feel free to discuss dates & times, I am fairly flexible. Over weekends I will have to charge a small surcharge per person (about R25) to accommodate staff overtime & their transport costs.
- If you book & pay for a group of 8 or more guests you attend at half price.
- If mothers bring a son or daughter between ages 11-18, the child attends at half price.
- A full set of printed recipes is provided at the Demo.
Kindly make reservations as follows
- Inquire if there is space via email or phone, ensuring you indicate the number of persons in your group.
- Once your booking is confirmed, you will be required to pay via EFT and email confirmation to secure your booking.
- Payment and confirmations must be received 7 days in advance of the demo date.
- Should there be too few participants the Demonstration will be cancelled.
- If for any unforeseen reason, a demo needs to be cancelled, a full refund will be paid.
- No cancellations will be accepted within 3 days prior to function date.
